2010 Hennessey HPE800 Twin-Turbo Camaro

2010 Hennessey HPE800 Twin-Turbo Camaro - Muscle Cars BlogFrom hennesseyperformanceblog.com: When this Cyber Gray 2010 Camaro SS arrived at Hennessey, it was originally outfitted as a supercharged HPE650 with one notable difference — a forged, low compression 415 cubic inch LS3 stroker motor. Well, when you have a love of horsepower and a rock solid foundation to build on, the urge to take things further is hard to resist.

After all, the same 415 stroker is at the heart of the Hennessey HPE800 Twin Turbo Camaro upgrade, so determining the method of attack for producing big numbers was a no brainer.

After transforming the HPE650 to a twin turbo HPE800 and making well over it’s advertised numbers at a super-conservative 11 psi, the time came at the request of the customer to increase the boost and have a little fun.

So with a few more pounds of boost — 16 psi total — the HPE800 Camaro easily put down nearly 850 horsepower to the rear wheels and just a hair over 800 lb-ft of torque (847 rwhp / 801 lb-ft tq to be exact). Factor in your basic drivetrain loss for a 6-speed manual Camaro and the horsepower numbers hit right near 1,000 HP mark!

But what makes the numbers even better is the conservative and SAFE nature of the Hennessey twin turbo setup. A strong motor, efficient turbo design and proper fuel support means the HPE800 (and even the 427 cubic inch LSX-powered HPE1000) Camaro can be tuned for bird-dog reliability while making outrageous amounts of power. More than 500 2010 Camaros descended on Valdosta, Ga. for the first Camaro5Fest. The event, hosted by Camaro5.com, is believed to have been the largest-ever gathering of fifth-generation Camaro owners. More than 1,000 people attended the event, driving their 2010 Camaros from across the U.S. and Canada to Valdosta on Friday, April 16.

Several members of the Camaro team attended, including Camaro Chief Engineer Al Oppenheiser, Vehicle Line Director Peter Kosak, Camaro Marketing Manager John Fitzpatrick, and Camaro Product Manager Cheryl Pilcher. Team Camaro drove from Detroit to Georgia in two Camaro Transformers Special Editions, two Camaro Synergy Special Editions, a development Camaro, and VIN 002 of a 2011 Camaro.

Camaro5Fest kicked off with a cruise through the streets of Valdosta, led by Oppenheiser. Residents lined the streets, cheering as a line of Camaros more than three miles long passed by under police escort. The following day, Camaro fans traveled to South Georgia Motorsports Park for a car show, drag races and autocross competitions. The track events ended with Camaro owners getting the rare chance to drive their cars on the 1/2-mile oval track.

“It was an incredible opportunity to see the passion and enthusiasm owners have for the new Camaro,” says Fitzpatrick. “This was such an exciting event that I would not be surprised to see more than 1,000 cars at next year’s Camaro5Fest.”

Camaro Will Remain In Left-hand Drive

Camaro Will Remain In Left-hand Drive - Muscle Cars BlogCountries such as Japan, UK and Australia won’t get the Camaro -  at least, not now. It seems that the plans for a right-hand drive version of the Camaro have been put on hold due to a change of priorities within GM. This is what Bob Lutz, GM’s vice chairman, said in an interview with journalists at the
2010 Geneva Auto Show. Maybe there are intentions to accent on hybrids and electric vehicles.

According to Motor Trend, Lutz said “It’s been pushed back, perhaps indefinitely. No matter which car company you work for, there’s never enough engineering money, talent and capital to do everything you want to do,” said Lutz. “So when we looked at the hybrids that we have to do, and the plug-ins that we have to do, we just had to priority rank it and I couldn’t argue with the priorities.”

“Unfortunately all of the markets came in with relatively low volume estimates. The UK was low, and…frankly I think Australia could have stepped up to the plate with some more. But when we finally looked at it there weren’t enough units to justify after all what is a fairly large investment,” he said.

This shiny pearl state-of-art muscle Camaro was designed by the writer and director of the Jinn movie – Ajmal Ahmad. In this production the FireBreather will make its first debut.
