Ford Ranchero – Not another muscle vehicle

Jan
17

Some people use this car model like an everyday sedan-based pickup, but this 1975 Ford Ranchero is like nothing you have seen before. The massive rear tires and the dual nitrous bottles in the trunk gives this pickup an unique image.

Mike Miller is the owner of this monster vehicle – he has swapped the original Cleveland V8 with a 604ci (9,9 L) V8 specially build by JBA Engines. It generated 870 hp an 822 lb-ft torque on 91 octane. Another cool feature is the wood paneling along the side of the car. But wait for the coolest part – this 870 hp baby adds 250 more horses with a shot of nitrous. Make sure you check out the gallery below.

Al Jardine’s 1971 Plymouth Hemi ‘Cuda and The Auction

Jan

The car on the picture is the “personal” 1971 Plymouth Hemi ‘Cuda of the Beach Boy singer Al Jardine. This muscle car was highly touted in the run-up to the auction block next week at the Barrett-Jackson event in Scottsdale, Ariz, but pulled from sale on Friday.

The reason is that the vehicle had been reported stolen in 1975, in St. Louis. A few hours later, however, Scottsdale police said it was all a misunderstanding, and Barrett-Jackson reinstated the car.

It seems that the problem was a ’71 Plymouth with that VIN had indeed been reported stolen, but after that it was recovered and there was no update in the police database. What’s more – such thing could happen when a less desirable version of a model is upgraded by customizers to the most sought-after version. For instance, a ‘71 Cuda with a 6-cylinder engine may have a Hemi V-8 swap. But this car customized in plum-and-white, had been advertised by Barrett-Jackson as “Al Jardine’s, of the original Beach Boys, personal Hemi ‘Cuda re-creation. It has been built for Jardine to his specifications and is titled in his name.

A few years ago some of the European vehicles made their way to the Japan market and specially to the Japanese tuners. Now we can see some American vehicles making their way to the Land of the Rising Sun.

This Chevrolet Camaro was spotted at the Goodyear booth tuned with a body kit and a massive set of wheels. The funny side of the story is that a large car like Camaro looks simple enormous next to many of the subcompacts and MPVs at the Tokyo show.

Tiger Woods’ Crashed GM

Jan

Some people call this car crash the most expensive one in history. What’s more – Tiger Woods has lost millions of dollars from sponsors who dropped or limited their use of his likeness in their marketing after news of his affairs. What’s next – General Motors has restricted their sponsorship.

After the accident in November in which he crashed a Cadillac Escalade, registered to G.M., outside his home in Florida his problems emerged. USA Today reported on Tuesday that General Motors ended the agreement with Tiger Woods two weeks ago. Dayna Hart, a spokeswoman for Buick, confirmed the news on Wednesday: “Our loan arrangement with him was contracted to end Dec. 31, 2009.”

Ford is releasing a variation of its new V8 5.0-powered Mustang, starting with the California Special for 2011. The GT/CS was last introduced as a 2007 model and featured a unique appearance and wheel package available only on the premium GT coupe and convertible. The rear is enhanced by a new lower fascia with a GT500-style diffuser and a taller decklid spoiler. Revenge Verde Supercar in Detroit 2010

Jan
14

Revenge, which is based in US introduced to the world its Verde Supercar at the 2010 Detroit Auto Show.

Revenge claims that the Verde shares a good portion of its aluminum chassis with the dearly departed Ford GT. Powertrain options are the Roush-sourced Ford Racing V8 producing 605 hp and the supercharged GM LS9 with 638 hp. The Hp2g Hybrid drivetrain option with the V8 engine puts out 400 horsepower while running on E85 and returning upwards of 100 miles per gallon.

What’s more, the bodywork is fashioned from aluminum and carbon fiber, which allows for a weight of 3,500 pounds. Performance estimates put the 0 – 60 time at between 3 and 5 seconds, depending on the chosen engine. Top speed will be over 200 miles per hour, with optional gearing that could potentially allow the Verde to hit 240 mph. Pricing is set at $190,000 and Revenge says it’s planning to put cars in paying customer’s hands later this year. We are waiting for it.

3.7L V6 into 2011 F-150

Jan
13

A report from Mike Levine at Pickuptrucks.com says that the same Ti-VCT 3.7-liter V6  that will power the 2011 Mustang and Lincoln MKX will also be found under the hood of the F-150 by the end of the year. Levine tells that the 3.7 will be added to the XL and STX models, though there is a chance that the XLT could also get some fuel-sipping love. A V6 pickup will be a big hit with fleet customers as well as buyers who love trucks but don’t use them for towing or hauling.

The sources didn’t quote power numbers, but since the Lincoln MKX version will reportedly produce the same 305 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque as the one used in the Mustang, the same numbers will be found in the F-series. If the 3.7 gets into the F-150, that will be very interesting combination of fuel economy and 305 hp.

Luxury cars and hip-hop music belong to each other, so the news that Grammy Award-winning artist Nelly will include the 2011 Mustang 5.0-liter V-8  in his upcoming album’s artwork is no surprise for us. The album, set to launch this spring, will feature a 2011 Mustang GT customized by DUB Magazine.

“I don’t care where you grew up, everyone knows the Mustang. At some point, you’ve had a conversation about a Mustang – and it was probably one about you wanting to get behind the wheel of one,” says the 35-year-old rapper. “I’ve always loved the Mustang; the vehicle has power to the point where you can’t help but want to hit the pedal. And the newest one? More power, hotter style.”
