2012 Shelby GT 1000 Coupe - Muscle Cars BlogNEW YORK – March 27, 2012 – Shelby American, Inc., a division of Carroll Shelby International (CSBI.PK), will introduce its most powerful Shelby yet on April 5, 2012, at the New York International Auto Show. Carroll Shelby and his team created the Shelby 1000 by starting with a 2012 Ford Shelby GT500 and kicking its handling, horsepower and braking to the performance edge.

The Shelby 1000 will be offered in both a street and a Shelby 1000 S/C “off-road” track version. The street legal, pump gas version dyno’s out at approximately 950 HP, while the track oriented S/C edition is rated at over 1,100 HP.

“Carroll Shelby is a visionary who has pushed the boundaries of performance his entire life,” said John Luft, president of Shelby American. “He challenged the Shelby American team to develop the Shelby 1000 and wanted to unveil this amazing new Shelby at the New York Auto Show celebrating 50 years since he unveiled the very first Shelby Cobra that changed the face of high performance. We will have that very car, Cobra #1 (CSX2000) along with Shelby 1000 on display in our Shelby American booth in New York.”

Tony Hawk “Hawkized” 2011 Ford Mustang GT 5.0

Tony Hawk "Hawkized" 2011 Ford Mustang GT 5.0 - Muscle Cars BlogBuilding cool cars for charity is nothing new, but this 2011 Mustang has a better pedigree than most of those auction flyers that make a big splash and then vanish forever. Built with input from skateboarder Tony Hawk and assembled by the guys at Galpin Auto Sports (you know, the same guys who build the hardware on the hit TV show “Pimp My Ride”), this is no paint and sticker upgrade, but a comprehensive redesign of the 2011 Mustang that addresses everything from horsepower to interior accommodations.

The 2011 Mustang is new in a lot of ways, but the styling was left alone after the 2010 update, so that’s where Tony and Galpin Auto Sports started. A 0-mile Mustang GT was secured and shipped directly to Galpin’s shop, where the transformation took place. The first change was the addition of a Street Scene body kit, which includes a custom front fascia, rocker skirts, upper and lower side scoops, a new rear valence, as well as a trick wing that is surprisingly low profile in today’s tuner world. Brilliant silver paint covers every inch of the bodywork, and has been polished and buffed well beyond factory specification. Black graphics were added, a design that echoes the past greats like the Boss 302, but with a modern twist. The hood was also blacked-out and creates a stripe that extends to the rear deck lid and even between the tail lights, and a custom Tony Hawk logo was emblazoned on its surface, reminiscent of a 21st century Firebird. Gothic-looking Tony Hawk initials adorn the front fenders and Tony’s signature has been added to the rear bumper. Nobody is going to mistake this for a garden-variety Mustang. Read more! 2008 Dodge Challenger Mr. Norms Convertible

2008 Dodge Challenger Mr. Norms Convertible - Muscle Cars BlogI think that RK Motors Charlotte is a great muscle cars expert and here come the details:

The first thing you notice about this car is what you didn’t notice first: it’s a convertible. Dodge hasn’t built any Challenger convertibles [yet] but this one looks so right that it takes a second glace for most people to understand that this is not OEM, but an exceptional custom piece. The second thing you notice is that it’s not just a Challenger that has gone topless, but rather an extremely special vehicle: Mr. Norm (Krause) had this car built for himself, and it is not only a convertible, but it is also the first Mr. Norm’s Super Challenger, the first Kenne-Bell supercharged Super Challenger, and was custom built (as a hardtop) for the 2008 SEMA show in Las Vegas. Forty years ago, this would be like getting the first Hemi ‘Cuda convertible ever built, and if you’re a fan of Mr. Norm, perhaps it’s even sweeter than that.

Oh, and did I mention that it makes 600 horsepower? Click on Read more and check out the FANTASTIC gallery!

3500 HP Mini Cooper With Cummins Engine

3500 HP Mini Cooper With Cummins Engine - Muscle Cars BlogHere’s something that is Mini .. and Maxi, as well. We all know this is a muscle cars blog, but this car nothing more than a pure hellish muscle car. We know an engine that delivers 175 hp is more than enough to make a contemporary MINI a  performance vehicle. But how about doubling the figure? You’d get a 350 hp MINI. But why limit yourself? Why not take the new power rating and multiply it by…. let’s say ten? Are you still with us?

If the answer is “yes”, then we have to tell you that we haven’t forgotten our brains in a test drive car or anything like that, we’ve just taken a look in Cummins’ garden and found out that the world’s largest diesel engine maker (the adjective can be used for both “Cummins” and “engine”) has strapped a 11 tonnes, 3,500 hp oil-burner to a classic Mini. Now, that’s the kind of MINI diesel we’d drive.

The vehicle, which will be showcased at the upcoming Goodwood Festival of Speed, features the largest engine in the company’s offer. The QSK78 powerplant, which is also the largest oil burner in the UK, uses a V18 layout, has a 78 liter displacement and uses 12 turbochargers to deliver 3,500 hp and a maximum torque of 14,800 Nm.

The engine’s everyday job is to power mining industry dump trucks that can carry up to 360 tonnes so we’re guessing it could do a pretty good job with the MINI.

“We never like to let a challenge go by unanswered so we got to thinking maybe we could fit the QSK78 into an original Austin Mini. It proved to be a bit tricky to fit under the bonnet but our engineers came up with a more creative solution. We’re certain that the Goodwood crowd will have difficulty believing what they are seeing,” said Steve Nendick, Cummins’ Communications Director.

GMC Urban Utility Concept (mentioned previously as the GMC Granite) is the teaser, released by GM, prior to its debut at the 2010 Detroit Auto Show on Monday. The concept hints at a new segment GMC may venture into to compete with the likes of Kia’s Soul and Nissan’s Cube.

“We’ve designed a new breed of truck that’s as efficient as it is chic, innovative as it is functional,” says Frank Saucedo. “Our goal was to create the next generation of urban mobility, fusing a flexible, functional social space with an urban-box design that’s equally at home at the cabin or the club.”
