Few cars carry as direct a link between motorsports and the showroom as the Boss 302. Parnelli Jones drove a Mustang, powered by a canted-valve, hand built, 5 liter engine and four speed manual, and you could go to your local dealer and have one, too! Hey—the production cars even ran his stripes! A big carb, a big intake, big heads opened a lot of eyes to small block power, and the power waiting to be unleashed with a simple set of headers and an aggressive cam are the stuff of legend. This example here is quite the street fighter, packing the Boss engine, 3.91 gears and little else. It’s as close as you could get to a Mustang race car with license plates in 1970! The Ford Racing Mustang Cobra Jet concept revealed today at the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) show proves there is indeed a replacement for displacement.
In the perpetual quest to stay ahead of the competition, for the first time ever Ford Racing has equipped its factory-built turnkey drag racer with a turbocharged engine, adopting the same award-winning technology found on road-going EcoBoost® engines.
When the original Mustang Cobra Jet drag racers rolled out of the Mustang factory in 1968, they relied on 7.0-liter V8 engines with massive four-barrel carburetors to propel them down the strip.
“When a new generation of Cobra Jets arrived four decades later, they immediately began winning with a modern, fuel-injected 5.4-liter V8 topped with a belt-driven supercharger,” recalls Jesse Kershaw, Ford drag racing competition manager. “Over the past four years, the Cobra Jet has gone on to become both a fan and competitor favorite, the most successful late-model vehicle in drag racing.” Read more!
Like most gearheads, Jack Roush enjoys engines of any kind and speed at any level. Nobody knows more about getting a Ford around a racetrack quickly than this guy. And for years, some of the nastiest, most powerful, and most spectacular blue oval hardware ever built has come out of Roush Performance in Livonia Michigan. However, as an owner of two P-51 Mustangs, Jack also has a healthy love for the vintage warbirds which inspired America’s first pony car. And in 2009, he decided to create an aeronautical themed performance car that would be a literal interpretation of Triple Ace Bud Anderson’s “Old Crow” P-51B fighter plane. One of only 51 produced, this showroom fresh Roush P-51B is the ultimate embodiment of classic American aviation and decades of racing knowledge. If you’re looking for a unique show car that’s virtually guaranteed to grow into an elite, investment grade muscle car, here’s your chance to strap in early and watch this Mustang climb! After we presented you an interview with Doug Fehan, and the upcoming challenge for the Corvette C6R at The 24 Hours of Le Mans, we wanted to present you live image of this beautiful racing muscle car – The Chevrolet Corvette C6R GT2.
The shot above was snapped at the garages of Pratt & Miller, the racing outfit contracted by GM to develop and run the racing Corvettes. As we can see, the color scheme is the same black and yellow, but the 2010 C6R has sharper paint job.
The bodywork is built based on an aluminum frame – for instance – the GT1′s frame is made of steel. The brakes are made of steel, too. The power unit of the muscle car is a downsized 5.5-liter V8.
We all hope that the Corvette Racing team is going to beat the competition, dominated by Ferraris and Porsches. Images – below on Read more!
