Highly Collectible Pace Car to Benefit the Austin Hatcher Foundation for Pediatric Cancer
Irvine, Calif. (April 20, 2010) – Hurst Performance Vehicles, a company responsible for some of the most iconic pace cars in racing history, will once again debut a special-edition Mustang built to serve as the official pace car for the 2010 Ford Racing Mustang Challenge Series.
The 2010 Hurst Mustang pace car will debut during the Ford Racing Mustang Challenge race at Virginia International Raceway on April 25, 2010.
After its run with the Ford Racing Mustang Challenge, this unique and highly-collectible Pace Car will make special appearances at the Hot Rod Power Tour, at numerous Larry H. Miller dealerships across the country and even at SEMA, before being auctioned for charity in January 2011. Proceeds of the auction will benefit the Austin Hatcher Foundation for Pediatric Cancer, formed to support research towards the diagnosis, treatment and development of a cure for pediatric cancer, and to provide support and hope to children and families undergoing treatment, as well as those who have lost children due to cancer. Through Hatch’s house of hope, the Austin Hatcher Foundation provides a landmark group of educational, emotional and social skills development programs essential to help cancer stricken children and their families succeed within their community.
Additionally, the 2010 Hurst pace car’s paint scheme and likeness will be used to create promotional items sold by the Ford Racing Mustang Challenge Series at various race events and online, including a run of limited edition replica skins for their Miller Cup Pinewood Car kits. As one of several ongoing initiatives to support the Austin Hatcher Foundation, Mustang Challenge has integrated a fund-raising Miller Cup Pinewood Derby car race into the season-ending championship banquet at Miller Motorsports Park.

The event will be hosted at Knott’s Berry Farm in Buena Park, California. According to the black S281, Saleen will also show off with a silver coupe and the Saleen 435S.
It is a well-know fact that the S281 is based on the 2010 Ford Mustang plus the Saleen tradition of limited-edition, high-performance vehicles “for enthusiasts who are looking for an exhilarating driving experience, with refined drivability for real-world road conditions.”
The power unit is the 4.6-liter V8 engine, complete with a Saleen Series VI.5 twin-screw supercharger and dual-stage intercooler, producing 485 hp and 460 lb.-ft. of torque. Corona, California. (April 16, 2010) On the day before the 46th anniversary of the debut of the Ford Mustang, which was launched on April 17, 1964, Steve Saleen, the man whose name has become synonymous with high performance Mustangs, launched his most eagerly awaited SMS Signature Series cars, the 2011 SMS 302 Mustang.
SMS Supercars President and CEO Steve Saleen says: “Many automotive enthusiasts have embraced our SMS 570 Challenger, but I know our core fans have been waiting for the first Mustang to come from the new company, SMS Supercars. I am thrilled to be able to end the suspense today. With the new 5.0L 2011 Mustang arriving at dealerships shortly, it was appropriate for us to act swiftly and present our SMS 302 Mustang based on this early model year change. We know the 302 name will excite any Mustang fan as well”.
After the successful launch of the 2010 SMS 570 Challenger in the Spring of 2009, the 2011 SMS 302 Mustang represents the second in the trio of SMS American Supercars, which will be followed by the introduction of the 2011 SMS 620 Camaro later this year. At first, two SMS 302 versions will be offered, the SMS 302 4V with a normally aspirated 5.0L engine, followed by the SMS 302 SC, using the patented SMS 296 Supercharger.
Like the production 2011 Mustang, Vaughn’s new ride features several new upgrades. The chassis and suspension have been updated using the knowledge gained from the 2009 season, and the looks have been tweaked to match Gitton’s ponycar for the street, the RTR-C Mustang. Falken Tire remains as a sponsor and has provided their brand new RT-615K tires to be sacrificed on track, and a version of Ford Racing’s 4.6-liter supercharged V8 is still under the hood. The first model of the limited edition high performance Barrett-Jackson Edition Roush Mustang was sold this weekend during the Barrett-Jackson auction at the South Florida Fairgrounds for $100,000, an amount in the vicinity of what its creators expected.
This 540hp 2010 ROUSH® Barrett-Jackson® Edition Mustang is the concept vehicle for 25 serialized builds to be done on 2010 model year pony cars, and brings together the racing and performance heritage of ROUSH Performance Products® with the sleek new Planet Color® Barrett-Jackson Collector Color Series paints and finishes with 25 custom colors, mid-coats and topcoats, including ‘Back in Black’ and ‘Red Hot Chili Pepper’ which are prominently displayed on this concept vehicle as the base color and graphics respectively.
According to a recent report by MotorAuthority, Ford is not planning a Turbo Mustang for now. We understand the tendency of this muscle car automaker – after all it has recently unveiled two other sophisticated powerplants for the 2011 model. The first is the 305-hp 3.7-liter V6 and the second is the new 412-hp 5.0-liter V8. Actually, the turbocharged engine makes an almost equal amount of torque, and because it is still a V6, there’s a notable weight savings over a V8 engine.
If we take a look at the past, we’ll see that in the 1980s, Ford produced a turbocharged model called the SVO. It used a 4-cylinder – with the lighter engine helping the car beat the old 5.0 in some tests.
Heads up, guys! The automaker has confirmed that the EcoBoost V6 will arrive in the F-150 later this year as a 2011 model.
In addition to the custom paint scheme, this concept vehicle comes fully-loaded with the ROUSH R2300 ROUSHcharged 4.6L Powertrain System. Components include TVS Technology ROUSHcharger®, intake manifolds, intercooler & radiator, cold air induction system, secondary sheave FEAD, forged aluminum pistons, forged steel H-beam connecting rods, forged steel crankshaft, unique high flow fuel injectors (52lb/hr), unique fuel rail, dual 60mm electronic throttle body, upgraded fuel system, aluminum flywheel, upgraded clutch and ROUSH® calibrated engine control module. Additional ROUSH content includes aero body styling to add to the vehicle’s appearance, exhaust for that deep V-8 rumble, 4-piston front brakes with 14″ rotors and painted rear calipers with slotted rotors and upper and lower billet grille which streamlines the appearance while improving cooling performance.

Actually this is a Roush 427R, but the special edition, announced today by Paul Miller Ford, boasts only visual enhancements. However this Stang looks awesome with its new front fascia and front splitter, a rear fascia, side splitters and custom blue and black suede seating accents. The paintjob is great, too – jet black with University of Kentucky True Blue stripes. The power unit is the well-known 4.6l engine boosted with the help of the Roushcharger supercharger system.
“The inspiration for the outer appearance and the color scheme came from a Bill Keightley jersey that was given to me last year,” J.P Miller, General manager for Paul Miller Ford says. “It just seemed to be the perfect fit for this project.”
