Corvette Marks 60 Years of Performance with 427 Convertible - Muscle Cars BlogCorvette Marks 60 Years of Performance with 427 Convertible

DETROIT – Chevrolet today unveiled the 2013 Corvette 427 Convertible Collector Edition – the fastest, most capable convertible in Corvette’s history – as well as a 60th Anniversary Package that will be available on all 2013 Corvette models.

“The 2013 model year will be historic for Corvette, marking its 60th Anniversary and the final year for the current ‘C6′ generation,” said Chris Perry, vice president, Global Marketing and Strategy for Chevrolet. “We couldn’t think of a more fitting way to celebrate these milestones than bringing back one of the most-coveted combinations in the brand’s history – the Corvette convertible and a 427 cubic-inch engine.”

The 60th Anniversary Package and 427 Convertible will make their public debut at the Barrett Jackson collector car auction in Scottsdale, Ariz., on Jan 21, and will arrive at U.S. Chevrolet dealers early this summer.

Corvette 427 Convertible Collector Edition
The Corvette 427 Convertible blends elements of the Z06 and ZR1 models to create the fastest and most-capable convertible in Corvette’s history.

Its heart is the 427-cubic-inch (7.0L) LS7 engine from the Corvette Z06. Rated at 505 horsepower (377 kW) and 470 lb.-ft. of torque (637 Nm), it is the most powerful engine ever installed in a production Corvette convertible – and, like the Z06, the 427 Convertible is only available with a six-speed manual transmission.

The LS7 was co-developed with the Corvette Le Mans-winning GT1 engine and features lightweight titanium connecting rods and intake valves, as well as racing-inspired high-flow cylinder heads and a dry-sump oiling system. It is assembled by hand at GM’s Performance Build Center, where customers who purchase the 427 Convertible Collector Edition can purchase the Corvette Build Experience option and assemble the engine that will power their new car. Read more!

Find great gifts for the Chevy fan in your life at Chevysupersport.com - Muscle Cars BlogHello, guys! It’s been a while since the last time I posted, but I really want to share some cool stuff with you. To be honest, I was looking for a nice muscle car-themed wall clock for my new place and a friend of mine told me about Chevysupersport.com. Along with the extensive selection of Chevy SS Muscle car parts and accessories, I saw the Chevy Apparel and Gifts section, where I stumbled upon some very cool Chevrolet themed t-shirts, caps and … wall clocks!

That was the time when my curiosity prevailed. I browsed that section and really loved the Chevy SS racing t-shirts and the Chevrolet Legends t-shirt. The last one was featuring the Chevelle SS, Nova SS and the Z28 Camaro iconic muscle cars on the back. These products are made of 100% high quality cotton with a silk-screen design. Actually, I still regret not buying this one…

I took a look at the caps – there was some really nice and stylish designs such as the Chevy SS low profile cap, which has SS Super Sport embroidery on the crown, Bowtie on the lip and Super Sport on the Velcro closure adjustable strap. Top quality products, which would make any muscle cars enthusiast extremely happy.

But then I saw it, I found exactly what I wanted – a stylish Chevrolet wall clock, which was even glowing in yellow neon light. “That’s it!”, I thought and right before placing the order, the doorbell rang. It was my girlfriend bringing a box. “Happy Thanksgiving Day!”, she said and gave me the box… It was a heck of a surprise to figure out she gave me the very same Chevrolet wall clock as the one featured on Chevroletsupersport.com. Trust me, there was no one happier than me! As it turned out, she knew what I was looking for and luckily for me, bought it before I did.

So, Christmas time is coming and now I know where to find some great gifts for any Chevy fan - Chevysupersport.com

Ford Mustang Boss 302: Back with More for 2013, Paying Homage to a ’70s Legend - Muscle Cars Blog

  • 2013 Ford Mustang Boss 302 builds on the heritage of the 1970 Boss 302 with new, reflective hockey stick graphics package – first modern application on a production car
  • Also new for 2013 is heritage-inspired School Bus Yellow paint and Sterling Gray accents on Boss Laguna Seca, which delivers race-ready suspension, aerodynamic details and removed rear seat
  • Ford SYNC® connectivity system becomes a standard Boss feature for 2013, adding to a specially tuned engine, quad exhaust, brakes, suspension and design that optimize weight, aerodynamics and track performance
LOS ANGELES, Nov. 15, 2011 – The Ford Mustang Boss 302 is all about performance, and a nod to heritage comes standard with new paint options and design details for 2013.
A new hockey stick graphic featuring reflective stripes is added to the new Boss, calling back the 1970 Boss 302. 2013 Boss 302 and Boss Laguna Seca models feature new School Bus Yellow paint, honoring Parnelli Jones’ 1970 Trans-Am championship car prepared by Bud Moore.
“Everything we did for 2013 is consistent with and links directly back to our 1970 heritage. The reflective stripes and hockey stick graphic in particular mean something to Mustang enthusiasts,” said Dave Pericak, Mustang chief engineer. “Last year, we proved the car had what it takes to perform, and this year we focused on enhancing its eye-catching looks and celebrating its history.”
The reflective stripes on Boss come to life when lights hit them, similar to how they did in 1970 on the Mustang Boss 302. The new stripe follows the classic hockey stick motif by going over the fender and extending down the body panel.
Boss Laguna Seca has new Sterling Gray accents and will be available in vintage School Bus Yellow and black paint offerings, complemented by hockey stick stripes and gray interior rear cross-brace. Gray also sets off the front grille, mirror caps and rear pedestal spoiler, while Laguna Seca rear badging and unique two-tone gray and silver wheels round out the exterior accents. Unlike the previous model, the roof will not feature colored accents. Read more!

2012 Camaro ZL1 Video 4: Designed for Downforce

Nov

2012 Camaro ZL1 Video 4: Designed for Downforce - Muscle Cars BlogDETROIT – With supercar levels of performance and technology, the 580-horsepower (432-kW) Camaro ZL1 can reach 170 mph (273 km/h) on the famed Nürburgring’s Nordschleife course in Germany. To maintain stability and steering response at that speed, the ZL1 features an aerodynamic design that generates downforce to press the tires against the track.

“The Camaro ZL1 lapped the Nürburgring in an incredible 7:41.27 seconds, which would not have been possible without work of our aerodynamics team,” said Al Oppenheiser, Camaro chief engineer. “The design of the ZL1 creates downforce like a race car, harnessing air pressure to press the tires against the track for extra grip and control at high speeds.”

Most production cars are designed with some lift at speed slip through the air for improved fuel economy. The Camaro LS and Camaro SS are no exceptions, enabling the Camaro LS to deliver 323 horsepower (241 kW) and up to 30 mpg on the highway.

Design for high-speed track capability takes in other considerations.

For the ZL1 – the fastest Camaro ever – the aerodynamics team set out to generate downforce for improved handing at speed while minimizing the amount of increased drag that could reduce fuel economy and the vehicle’s top speed. With the computer-assisted design recommendations, engineers tested full-scale clay models and full-size prototypes in the General Motors’ wind tunnel – shaping clay and trimming foam board by hand to affect changes and measure them immediately.

Outside of the aerodynamics laboratory, engineers tested the ZL1’s aero aids on GM’s Milford Road Course, other race tracks and the unique “rolling road” wind tunnel at the Auto Research Center in Indianapolis.

When the dust settled and the wind-tunnel blades came to a stop, the Camaro ZL1 produced 65 pounds of downforce at an equivalent 150 mph (241 km/h) – compared to 200 pounds of lift in a Camaro SS – which was offset by an increase of only 40 counts of additional aerodynamic drag.
