Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Concept

Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Concept - Muscle Cars BlogChevrolet Corvette. Let’s start with the fact that last year, Ed Welburn, GM’s vice president of global design, invited GM’s 10 styling studios to submit design proposals and some of the results were “absolutely phenomenal”. He also added – “There is a lot to pick from. The direction that we take is very important, and the decision has not been made.”

Obviously this move from GM are aimed to attract buyers in Europe, where the car has little appeal, and young U.S. buyers. According to The Power Information Network, the current average age of a Corvette buyer is 54. Critics says it looks big with a cheap-looking interior. Welburn agrees with the interior “problem” – “The execution, materials selection–it’s got to be a much better interior. Our customers desire that.” And we’ll add what industry says – a redesign is due in two to three years.

Welburn compares today’s Corvette with Porsche 911 – they are about the same size, but the styling makes it look larger. Let’s cite Welburn again – “We have to develop a design that feels trimmer, meaner, to go along with the incredible performance that the car has.” He also intended it’s about time for development of the Corvette, but the new Corvette can’t be so far away in concept than today’s Corvette.

Chevrolet Camaro Convertible Hits The Streets Soon

Chevrolet Camaro Convertible - Muscle Cars BlogYou may have heard about the upcoming convertible version of Chevrolet Camaro. The interesting things is that in all concept photos there is no top – it doesn’t exist.

A repoty by Automotive News say that GM has awarded Magna the contract to build the Camaro convertible top with approx. 20,000 units annually. These  numbers lead us to a conclusion that GM hopes the Camaro convertible is going to be a successful version. If this production plan comes real, the Camaro Convertible would then join the Mustang as the best selling convertible in America.

However, GM has yet to officially confirm the Camaro Convertible for production – it is expected that a Camaro Convertible could arrive later this year as a 2011 model.

GM vs Ford in a Heavy Duty Tug of War

In an interview with PickupTrucks.com Tom Stephens made this statement about the new Duramax engines powering the 2011 Chevrolet and GMC Heavy Duty. According to the site’s editor, Stephens was asked three times and he remained serious.

Stephens told PickupTrucks.com that “You’re going to love our new diesel Duramax engine in the new Heavy Duty”.  “You know what I want to do to prove it? I want to take our truck and Ford’s [new Super Duty] and chain them together back -to-back. Then I want to have them pull against each other. I know our truck will beat theirs.”

As far as we know, PickupTrucks.com passed the challenge on to Ford but has yet to get a response, but we really would love to see such a tremendous “battle”.
