HOTTEST CAR, SPORT COMPACT, TRUCK AND 4×4-SUV ANNOUNCED AT THE 2012 SEMA SHOW

This year’s SEMA Award for the top trending vehicle models in four categories were announced today at the SEMA Show in Las Vegas. The Ford Mustang was named Hottest Car, the Scion FR-S took the Hottest Sport Compact honors, the Ford F-Series won Hottest Truck and the Jeep Wrangler received the Hottest 4×4-SUV award.

“The SEMA Show has always been about innovative products and trends,” said Chris Kersting, SEMA president and CEO. “The SEMA Award amplifies the industry’s special ability to identify and set trends that consumers follow.”

The SEMA Award recognizes vehicle models that specialty-equipment manufacturers believe are the best platforms for accessorization and that showcase the year’s coolest products. It also underscores the cooperative relationship between the automakers and SEMA-member companies. Read more!

The Ford Racing Mustang Cobra Jet concept revealed today at the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) show proves there is indeed a replacement for displacement.

In the perpetual quest to stay ahead of the competition, for the first time ever Ford Racing has equipped its factory-built turnkey drag racer with a turbocharged engine, adopting the same award-winning technology found on road-going EcoBoost® engines.

Winning heritage
When the original Mustang Cobra Jet drag racers rolled out of the Mustang factory in 1968, they relied on 7.0-liter V8 engines with massive four-barrel carburetors to propel them down the strip.

“When a new generation of Cobra Jets arrived four decades later, they immediately began winning with a modern, fuel-injected 5.4-liter V8 topped with a belt-driven supercharger,” recalls Jesse Kershaw, Ford drag racing competition manager. “Over the past four years, the Cobra Jet has gone on to become both a fan and competitor favorite, the most successful late-model vehicle in drag racing.” Read more!

Lingenfelter Performance Engineering (LPE) has turned their LTA concept car into reality by debuting the first production Lingenfelter LTA at the 2012 SEMA Show.

Lingenfelter announces they will build a limited quantity of Lingenfelter LTA vehicles for eager customers to purchase starting this year. Initially developed to evoke the muscle car styling from the past combined with Lingenfelter’s latest technologies, the Lingenfelter LTA has been a hit in collector car circles and enthusiast crowds across the country.

“Due to overwhelming response after displaying conceptual versions of the LTA at previous SEMA Shows and other events, Lingenfelter has decided to take the car to production,” said Ken Lingenfelter, owner of Lingenfelter Performance Engineering. “As a long-time admirer of the Firebird Super Duty, I initially wanted to build this car to celebrate and improve upon that special brand. After gauging the reactions of interested customers, we learned many enthusiasts share our passion for these eye-catching performance vehicles. And after thousands of inquiries, Lingenfelter determined we had to build limited quantities of the Lingenfelter LTA.” Read more!

The dream of millions of Hot Wheels® fans of all ages will come when the Camaro Hot Wheels® Edition arrives at Chevrolet dealerships early next year. It’s the first time a full-size, production Hot Wheels® car has been offered for sale by any manufacturer.

The Camaro Hot Wheels® Edition debuted at the SEMA Show, in Las Vegas. A special run of the Camaro Hot Wheels® Edition will be produced in the first quarter of 2013 – and like the collectable toys on which it is based – when they’re gone, they’re gone.

“It’s been nearly 20 years since I started designing cars for Hot Wheels and I have yet to drive one home,” said Felix Holst, vice president of creative for the Mattel Wheels Division. “Personally, I can’t wait to open the doors and see the Hot Wheels Camaro sitting in the garage.”

As part of Mopar’s 75th anniversary celebration and the 2012 edition of the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) show, Mopar and the Street and Racing Technology (SRT) team collaborated with comedian Jeff Dunham and his crew from Palmer’s Customs of Camarillo, Calif., to create a custom 2012 Dodge Challenger SRT8. Mopar, SRT, and Dunham revealed the modern-day hot rod, dubbed Project UltraViolet, today at the SEMA show in Las Vegas.

Dunham is a lifelong car enthusiast and well-known comedian who premiered his fifth special, “Minding the Monsters” on Comedy Central earlier this month and will launch his new “Disorderly Conduct” tour next month in Canada.

“It’s a major understatement to say that I’ve been looking forward to the SEMA show this year, as we’ve had an awesome time creating this one-of-a-kind Challenger,” said Dunham, who touts the 1970 Plymouth Barracuda “as my favorite muscle car of all time” and recently purchased a 1970 numbers-matching four-speed convertible ‘Cuda as proof. Today’s eBay find of the day is this 1968 Shelby GT500 KR Convertible. What about telling you this is the rarest GT500 in the World! In addition to that, it was once owned by Mrs. Shelby. As far as we know, this GT500KR was created specifically for her and painted in her favorite color nail polish, Royal Maroon.
