It is a well-know fact that the S281 is based on the 2010 Ford Mustang plus the Saleen tradition of limited-edition, high-performance vehicles “for enthusiasts who are looking for an exhilarating driving experience, with refined drivability for real-world road conditions.”

The power unit is the 4.6-liter V8 engine, complete with a Saleen Series VI.5 twin-screw supercharger and dual-stage intercooler, producing 485 hp and 460 lb.-ft. of torque. It’s equipped with a short-throw, five-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential with 3.73:1 final drive ratio.

Interior is great, too – leather sport seats with Ultra-Suede inserts, highlighted by chevron-like Ultra-Suede red tabs in the seatback bolsters, and unique treatments of the gauges, steering wheel, center console and shifter. Noticeable  Saleen logos in the door panels, and Saleen logos in the door sill plates that illuminate when the door is opened.

In addition to this, the look of this beasty muscle car is enhanced with unique, 20-inch, 7-spoke alloy wheels with Pirelli P-Zero Rosso high-performance tires, and Saleen S281 Supercharged fender badging.

The new S281 convertible is the third vehicle launched under Saleen’s new ownership, after the 435S and the S281 coupe.

This 540hp 2010 ROUSH® Barrett-Jackson® Edition Mustang is the concept vehicle for 25 serialized builds to be done on 2010 model year pony cars, and brings together the racing and performance heritage of ROUSH Performance Products® with the sleek new Planet Color® Barrett-Jackson Collector Color Series paints and finishes with 25 custom colors, mid-coats and topcoats, including ‘Back in Black’ and ‘Red Hot Chili Pepper’ which are prominently displayed on this concept vehicle as the base color and graphics respectively.

In addition to the custom paint scheme, this concept vehicle comes fully-loaded with the ROUSH R2300 ROUSHcharged 4.6L Powertrain System. Components include TVS Technology ROUSHcharger®, intake manifolds, intercooler & radiator, cold air induction system, secondary sheave FEAD, forged aluminum pistons, forged steel H-beam connecting rods, forged steel crankshaft, unique high flow fuel injectors (52lb/hr), unique fuel rail, dual 60mm electronic throttle body, upgraded fuel system, aluminum flywheel, upgraded clutch and ROUSH® calibrated engine control module. This original BFGoodrich HURST/Woodhouse Ford Mustang made its debut as the official pace car at the Ford Racing Mustang Challenge race on Sept. 19, 2009. This stunning HURST/Mustang pace car features massive 20″ HURST polished, forged aluminum wheels with gold pointed center spokes wrapped in BFGoodrich g-Force KDW tires for maximum performance.

The cars are distinctive, with painted gold racing stripes and official pace car logos on white. Each car has a special white convertible top, boot and interior. The exterior delivers HURST identity with subtle detailing and features including real metal badges and a unique HURST Air-Speed rear deck spoiler. The gold HURST T-handle shifter is the centerpiece of the interior for both manual and automatic cars and the seats and floor mats feature the famous HURST gold and black “H” logos. Handling and attitude are provided by Eibach, with HURST-tuned coilover shocks, springs and sway bars.
