1970 Oldsmobile 442 W-30 Convertible Front AngleThe present owner and restorer of this good-looking 1970 Oldsmobile 442 W-30 convertible purchased it in 1994 as it was in the process of being dismantled for restoration. While continuing the work and cataloguing the components, he realized, having discovered the encompassing contingent of correctly coded equipment, that it was almost certainly one of 96 W-30 4-speed convertibles built in 1970. The 455 CI engine bore the same serial number as the car and had the correct heads, intake and exhaust manifolds, carburetor and internals; the Force Air induction system including the twin-scooped fiberglass hood was intact, and like all W-30 4-speeds, this one was equipped with standard front disc brakes.

The car was completed after a ground-up rotisserie restoration that witnessed the components renewed to factory specification; the frame was epoxy-painted for maximum durability before beginning reassembly of the mechanical components. The 442’s sheet metal was repaired where needed, including new floors and quarter panels, and the readied body finished in 1970 Oldsmobile Rally Red with White stripes. The 442’s upscale interior perfectly contrasts the Red exterior finish with Black dash and carpeting and contrasting Pearl seat and door upholstery.

Desirable features inside include a Hurst shifter, center console, wood grain trim, Sport 4-spoke steering wheel, Rally gauge pack with “Tic-Toc-Tac”, power top and push button radio. Completed with Red fender liners and chrome-trimmed Sport wheels with Goodyear Polyglas tires, this attractive and rare W-30 convertible remains in impressive condition with exceptional detailing throughout.
